Restart

I have a old Compaq Deskpro. Tring to use it for back up but when it got to Windows XP boot screen it restarted again and again. Can anyone help me fix this problem so I can back up data?
PS: I tried safe mode and it jus froze

The stats are 230 MHz with 256 ram and 14 gb hard drive with windows xp home.

Wow, i'm surprised that WINXP will even run, it's
way beyond the hardware specs for that machine.

What are the spec's on the Compaq? Cpu speed, memory and hard drive size? Did you check MS, KB about this and did you look at the HKL to see if you are even able to use this computer with XP?
Have you tried booting to the CD and try a repair?

It would probably be a lot easier just to slave the hard drive into another PC and copy any needed data.

If you must get the machine working, an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) would probably be your only choice. Navigate to the following for helpful instructions.

The usual problems are drivers in windows. The most frequent is the graphic card but it could be something else. I would try to have the XP CD and do a repare and install the newest driver for all your components.

I TRIED A REPAIR BUT STILL NOTHING, IT JUS FROZE ON THE REPAIR.

Windows XP will not load on a computer that it does not have the required drivers, as previouly mentioned. I can tell you for certain that it will not load if there is a faulty M/B, Video Card, Keyboard or especially if the HDD it is trying to boot from is faulty.
