Okay, I am feeling very dumb here. I recently had to replace the motherboard in my computer. The replacement necesitated also replacing the chip. Now I have a first mainboard motherboard with a 1.3 amd athlon socket a chip. The thing that is driving me up a wall is that after all the reset up, including a new harddrive, the stupid system, goes into a restart loop. It will fire all the way to the wallpaper and then for no discernable reason just go back to the beginning screen with my videocard, reloads the bios settings, redetects the harddrives and restarts windows, then this happens over and over and over again. At some point, the stupid thing just decides to start up. When it finally does start windows all the way, it runs just fine. What can be causing this?
I have updated every driver, updated the bios, and the chipset drivers. The system is running win98 v2. It has a Voodoo3 2000 video card (probably should be upgraded), a lynksys nic card, a zoom telephonics modem, the sound is onboard the motherboard. A standard 101 keyboard and a usb optical mouse. Any ideas?
