    Restore e-mail

    In Groupwise 5.5 how do I restore a particular user mailbox? (He accidently deleted some important e-mail)
    I tried re-build the user database but it just brought back junk.
    My last backup of the Groupise server is 3 days old and for sure the e-mail that he deleted is on the tape somewhere.
    Can you list steps by steps what file I need to restore from tape and if I have to do anything in Netadmin?

      in most cases you won’t be able to restore the email. the only thing you could possibly do is to restore his userxxx.db file, you can find whick one is his by looking for the 3 digit user id in his groupwise account properties, and replace the x’s in the userxxx.db with the user id in groupwise. this will only replace the links to mail, and any internet email that he had deleted and removed from his trash will not be there anymore, any groupwise mail that was sent to other people in the poa will still be present. also any new mail that he had received in the time between when you backed up last and when you do the restore will be lost.

      if he deleted it out of his trashcan as well it is gone…for good!

      1. Restore the entire PO into another directory on the server.
      2. Have the user get out of the current PO.
      3. Map a drive letter (M: for example) to the restored PO.
      4. Modify the GroupWise icon’s properties to add the switch /ph-M:
      5. Open the GroupWise, find the mail items and archive them.
      6. Connect to the original PO after undo the changes made in step 4, open the archive and unarchive the items.
      That’s it!!!
