Restore from MS-Backup

By 4gustav ·
When I remove a program through "Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs", and then restore it to the original location from an MS-Backup file, its title no longer shows in the list of programs in "Add/Remove Programs". How can I make it display again?

Restore from MS-Backup

I'm assuming you are using a version of Windows with a registry (Win98 or later). When you remove a program through the Add/Remove Programs wizard, it not only deletes the program files, it also deletes all enttries in the Registry that relate to the program. If the program was written to work with Win98 or later, these registry entries are necessary for the program to function properly. When you restore fom a backup (any backup - unless it is a full backup - i.e. the entire system), all youare restoring is the program files. Without the necessary registry entries, the program will not be shown in Add/Remove Programs, and usually will not function at all.

The only way to solve this is to reinstall the program from the original install media.
