Is this an w2k AD restore, you probably need to know the admin passsword.

Is this to rest a password. you need to be an admin or have rights on your domain to be able to rest passwords in active directory.

You don't have to reset a password to the admin password

Upgrade to w2k3.

W2K directory services restore is different than W2003 server. W2K actually allows the directory services restore password to be different than the administrators password. In W2003server [upgrade] it changes the directory services restore password to the Domain Administrators account password. In a fresh install the domain admins account password is used.
