restore points

When i go to the restore registry in XP pro I dont have any previous saved resore points.
I was under the impression this is done automatically!
Please help

You cannot restore registry unless you backed it up previously (Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Backup). In other words, the backup is not done automatically.

If you meant "restore registry" as "System Restore", Windows XP automatically creates restore points unless the feature was turned off by a user. To find out, go to My Computer (right click) | Properties | System Restore. If there is no check point in the check box, the feature was turned off.

The following quote is from Windows XP Help (Start | Help and Support)
" System Restore creates restore points on a regular basis even if you have not made any changes to the system. System Restore automatically creates these restore points:

every 24 hours of calendar time
or

every 24 hours your computer is turned on "


Type in "System Restore" in the Search box and you get all the information you need.

My mistake. I should have said "If there IS a check mark in the check box, then the System Restore feature was turned off by a user. By default there should not be a check mark".
