I have a client who backed-up several years worth of spreadsheet files in 1997 using DOS Backup from an unknown version of DOS to six 3.5″ HD floppy disks.
We currently are an NT shop and our conversions have been complete for some time. I have been able to locate some retired machines from storage running DOS version 6.2, but running restore from these fails to recignize the files.
Short of systematically reinstalling versions of DOS to this machine, or learning how to use, and then guessing the right version through using Setver, Does anyone know of a utility that would recognize and recover the contents of the backup?
