Restoring Windows XP Home-No disc

By randerson7 ·
The HP mahine running Home has a virus that prevents going into registry and bios. I can't run executables, etc. In trying to restore from HP restore drive, it is looking for the OEM file (with code). I do not have the restore disc. I found the file on the original C: drive and it seems to take it until the final "Thank You" screen where it locks up and shows only hour glass. Is there something missing or is it remnant of virus?

Sounds like you need to completely restore Windows from scratch. Which file did you find? How big is it?
You may have to return machine to store, for them to restore XP.

HP does come with any software because they have the restore partition on the hd. You need to follow HP's procedure to get this going. Restart the computer and hit f10 repeatedly until the restore menu appears then select which type of recovery you wanna perform. here is a link just ic case you need more help!
