Restrict viewing Networked PCs

By m_n_atif ·
I have a network, which is divided into two networks each with different IP address scheme. There is a PC which has two NICs and it connects to both the networks.
I want to restrict the PCs with different IP address not to see PCs of other IP address scheme in the Network Neighbourhood, except the one with 2 NICs.
There are Static routes between these two networks which have been added to access resouces on individual PCs.
Is there is a way I can restrict others network (IP address) users not to see the other PCs in their network neighbourhood.

Does disabling the WINS Client (TCP/IP) binding in the Workstaion Service on the PC that you don't want to see the other PC's do the trick?
On the PC that you don't want to see the
other PC's go to
Control Panel->Network->Bindings
Click on Workstation -> WINS CLIENT and disable the Interface. Also disable NWLink NetBIOS bindings in the Workstation Service (if it's installed)
I would think that would stop allowing you PC to see NetBIOS over TCP/IP. But for the machines to continue to see the rest of the machines in it's network I would suggest add the NetBEUI protocol to all of the PC's. Since NetBEUI is not routable you can see the PC's on your network only.
I don't think Disabling the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service (in Control Panel->Services) would help but you should investigate that.

Give each subnet a different workgroup name under Network Neighborhood Properties. This will keep them from seeing each other. They can still have the same Domain name.

If I understand things correctly. Turn off IP forwarding on the machine that has two nics in it. If I understand your stuation, the machine with two nics is ROUTING the information from one network to the other network via the two nic machine. Thiswould be the only way the two networks could talk because the are physically separate.

If you are using some other protocol it will have a similar terminology for the routing, you just need to turn it off, then reboot.

Sorry for not getting back quickly, my apologies, There is a slight change in the setup, which I noticed, A PC with Win2k pro can view both the networks, and a PC with 2 NICs is also a Win2k Pro PC.
