Restricting Intranet Server Access

By Vetch ·
Hi,

I'm not sure if what I want to do is possible, but I administer a local intranet server running Win2K Server.

I want one of my users to be able to edit some, but not all of the intranet.

I've changed the file permissions in Windows Explorer so that her id only has access to write and modify the files I want her to be able to, but I've given her read, read and execute and list contents of all of the intranet server.

When I put her id into the Operators field in the IIS, she doesn't have access to log onto the server with her id, using Frontpage, but she does when I put her into the Administrators group...

I assume this sort of thing should be possible...
Is there something I'm nissing, or do I have to set the bits I want her to edit as a subweb (seems a little inelegant....)

Your help would be greatly appreciated,

Many thanks,

Joe

I'm littel confused her.
there is two kinds of Permissions (Share & Security)
By default the user who should has access to a resource on a server should have "Full Control" as a (share permission) and whatever Security permission you wanna give her "Read/Write" (Security Permission) in your case.

Good Luck

I don't know too much about web technologies but I wanted a user to amend a telephone directory HTML file. I gave her RW NTFS access but it didn't work.

Why? Because I also needed to assign similar permissions on the folder that was associated tothe html file (pictures and the like).

Good luck,
Regards,
Tictag.
