Restricting long file names

By rjeffrey ·
Hi can anyone tell me how to stop a user from creating very long file and folder names on a 2003 server home drive. When I run a cleanup DEL can't handle the long file name and so skips over it. Limiting the name to say no more than 25 characters would be so helpful. Is there a registry entry for NTFS volumes or some other way ?

cheers

Awkward but will do the job

You are going to have to find the first 6 letters of the File Names. Create a Batch File and name it the Username.bat
===============
C:
dir /a /b \User Directory\Username>C:\username.txt
===============

Take the first 6 letters of the Long File Names and add ~1

Exapmple
zaptec~1

Modify your Batch File to suit

del zaptec~1.* /s /q
