Right Click Pop up menu

By rwwone ·
Recently a malicious pop up entered the following command selection into my right click pop up menu: ">>>FREE PORN GALLERIES<<<". This is extremely upsetting. Can you please tell me how to get rid of it.

Thank you

Start with one of the Ad-Ware / Spy-Ware removers.

Either AdAware from www.lavasoft.de

Or SpyBot Search and Destroy from www.download.com

To give you specific instructions for other ideas, we need to know which version of Windows you are running.

NOTE: I am running Windows 98 SE and I already have SpyWare which does not accomplish the purpose of my question.

I assume that you have looked in add / remove programs.

From the run box on the start menu, open msconfig

Check the startup tab for any unusual programs.
Uncheck suspicious programs.
Apply and close msconfig
Re-boot and see if the dialog is gone.
If you did uncheck any programs, make sure that they were not part of your anti-virus or firewall software.

CAUTION: Use care with the following instructions.
Improper use of Regedit can cause your PC to not boot into Windows.
It is "good" practice to back up the registry before editing.

From the run box, open regedit.

Click on Edit, Search.
Enter porn in the search window.

At each instance of the word porn in the registry examine the key, it's function (branch) and the data in the key.

If the data in a key looks like it is part of the porn dialog, you may want to note the terms in case you want / need to dig deeper into the registry to get rid of the menu item.

Delete keys as appropriate.
(Sometimes, it makes sense to delete the upper level of a key.)

Press F3 to search for the next instance of the term.

When finished, exit regedit.
Re-boot the PC.

With any luck, the free porn will be gone.

If not, does the option show up on all context menus?
Or just in IE?

Once it is gone, check your security settings in Internet Options.
Pay close attention to both the security tab, and the advanced tab.

I take it this is when you right click a page in Internet Explorer.

A couple of things to try first.

IE 6.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with the tool that first repspondant said.
Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware http://www.lavasoftusa.com
Secondly if that doesn't work.

-Back up your registry. If you dont know how, find out before doing anything else. You've been warned!
-Click START/RUN and type Regedit into the RUN box and hit enter.
-Browse for the following key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
Microsoft
Internet Explorer
MenuExt

-Somewhere under MenuExt you'll find that right mouse message your trying to
get ride of. Delete the line that contains
">>>FREE PORN GALLERIES<<<" and NOTHING else. You did backup your registry
like I said right ?????

If none of these work then again clcik start/run and type regedit

highlight and select the following folders
HKEY_Classes_root
*
Shellex
Context Menu Handlers
Look for Suspect in here

Always make sure you back up the registry of the PC before altering.
