RIS and ‘incremental imaging’

What I READ and what I HEAR conflict regarding the possibilities of RIS. While I HEAR that RIS will allow you to configure workstations to check with a RIS-enabled server for proper OS and Apps packages, all I READ says that only OS configuration is provided via RIS.

Can someone clarify for me what RIS DOES allow? Specifically, if I have a W2K Adv Srvr configured with RIS enabled and Ghost Corporate 7.5 installed, can I get my 10-20 workstations to check themselves at boot against an “expected” image and update themselves as necessary?
