RIS installation using Win2000

By anucool_2000 ·
Hi there,

I have a Windows NT network at my workplace. We want to shift to Windows 2000. But we want to automate the process. For this i want to use the Remote Installation Services package that comes with Windows 2000. I know i can do this for installing Windows 2000 professional over the clients. But i dont know if i can copy an hardisk image of a dummy client to the required clients using RIS. If yes, how can i do this.

You will need to run the sysprep utility on the client pc whose image you want to push upto the server and then you will need a third party utility like drivecopy to do the actual copying of the image to the server.

RIS is very picky about the network cards in the machine so more than likely you will need to use a boot disk with the correct nic drivers.
