Roaming and Local profiles

By andrewras ·
With local and roaming profiles in Win2k and NT I was wondering when you re-name a persons profile because it has become corrupt and copy the contents nto the new profile, if the person has asy 6 printers connected he loses all his printers, is there any way of copying these across in the same way as copting his desktop and favourites??

If you go to the system properties page (right click My Computer, properties) and select the user profiles tab there is an option "copy to". With this you can copy the entire profile (including printers) to a new user profile and simply overwrite the corrupt files.

When you create the fresh profile copy the file ntuser.dat to desktop, copy the old profile to the new location (as explained) then copy the ntuser.dat file from desktop back to the new profile. If it is the profile itself that is corrupt it's most likely that file.
