Rolling out Windows Update

By kkishi ·
I would like to update windows on all the computers on our network. But I do not want to run from each machine Windows Update on Internet Explorer's Tool menu, downloading and installing over 100 MB of patches. Can I download the patches once to a network share and then update each computer in a way that takes into consideration different machine configurations?

You can use the Windows Update Catalog:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/

to manually download the appropriate updates for the versions of Windows that you are supporting.

You can then either burn them to a CD, or access the files from the network.

There are software tools that you can use to push the updates onto individual PCs so that you do not need to visit each PC.
