Rom harddrive

Bought a dvr with a wd800 hd. tried to install in computer, bios, but as a Rom drive!
Wont format or accept a os.How is a HD a rom drive, and can it be changed for use in computer?

ROM = Read Only Memory

This is not a computer HDD it is made especially for a job that doesn't include computers. You can not use it in a computer.

The Circuit Board on the Bottom of the HDD

Is the main difference. It has it's own special Chips to do a different job to a computers HDD.

I'm assuming this is the same as the HDD's used in Security Systems when I say that because they are the only ones that I have had any dealings with. A Customer wanted to know why the HDD in his security System that saved the Video Footage from the Closed Circuit Cameras was so much more expensive than the ones used in computers when the both looked the same.

You need to look at the actual specifications of the HDD by going to it's makers Web Site and looking up the Technical Details of that Model HDD.
