RPC Services

I've been asked to stop the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator and Service, but I don't know what these services do. Can anyone explain to me what they do?

RPC Services

RPC stands for Remote procedure Calls and implements an IPC mechanism but in this case its for remote computers. So it more of an I/O processor for communication with other computers. it allows computer networks to spread the processing load amon anumber of pc's. So in case you dont need to spread the load go ahead and disable it in the services.
Hope this makes it clear to you
