Run and search missing from start menu

By raycuss ·
I am running XP Professional on a Dell 8400 machine.
How can I get "Run" and "Search" to appear on the Start Menu?

Hi

Check the following:

Click Start>Run and type

gpedit.msc

then click OK. This will start Group Policy. Expand the following: Local Computer Policy\User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar. In the right pane you see options to enable/disable the Search and Run commands.

Good luck

and since you don't have run to get to that gpedit.msc, you can create a desktop shortcut to it, which will also work.

gpedit.. ok thats really not the correct way. no offense..

The correct way to do this is to:

right click the start button
Choose properties
If you have start menu selected>choose customize
Go to the advanced tab
Choose the items you want showing on the start menu from the list

Your seach and run options are there for you to check..

Problem solved.

Good Luck....
