Run Command

By arankhododo ·
Hi

I just want to know if it is possible to clear/delete the entries you entered in the Run Command. If so, how do you go about it?

This works in 2000, not sure about XP: right click the taskbar, click on Properties, Advanced tab, then click the Clear button.

TweakUI might do it too, not sure:

In Windows XP, right click the Task Bar, select Properties, on Start Menu tab click Customise, on the Advanced tab towards the bottom there is a Recent Documents area with a Clear List button.

This button will clear the list on the Run command but it also clears My Recent Documents. So if you are a techie trying to cover your tracks on a user machine, you may need to make sure you make a note of those docs and set that up again. Some users only ever use this to open documents and won't behappy if you loose their list.

You need Registry Editor (regedit) to clear the list.

NOTE: Editing the registry is risky, so make sure you have a verified backup before saving any changes.

Start | Run and type ?regedit? without the quotes.
Go to HKey_Current_User | Software | Microsoft | Windows | CurrentVersion | Explorer | RunMRU.
On the right pane, MRUlist (double click) and clear the value data and OK.

Logoff (not Switch User) or restart the computer.

You can selectively remove any item you do not want by deleting appropriate value name, which is listed by alphabet order. Then remove the letter from the MRUlist.
