'run' missing

By computab ·
IBM Thinkpad T20, Windows XP Pro, the 'run' command is missing from the start menu after serious trojans (35)and spyware (2000) infection. How do I replace the run command. I did a search on Microsoft Knowledgebase and Technet, the suggestion was click Start, Run, Regedit. This computer doesn't do 'RUN'

for a work around so you can apply your fix you can hit the windows key + r to bring up the run box.

Another work around it to open up internet explorer and click file open and type regedit in the dialog box it should open regedit for you.

you might also try this
1. Open gpedit by double clicking on 'gpedit.msc' (C:\WINNT\system32\gpedit.msc)
2. Open 'User configuration' -> 'Administrative Templates' ->'Start Menu & Toolbar'
3. In the right pane find 'Remove Run from start menu' and double click on it
4. Chose 'Disable' and push OK button

Here's another one, you've likely checked this out already but in case you haven't

Right-click the Taskbar and select Properties.
Select Start Menu.
Click on Customize.
Click on Advanced.
Look for a check box for Run command in the option window. Check the box.

Hi,

To add the "Run" command back onto the start menu, go into the "Windows Control Panel" and select the "Taskbar And Start Menu" icon.

Under the "Start Menu" tab, click the "Customize" button.

Select the advanced tab and scroll down the list that appears, ticking the "Run Command" checkbox towards the bottom of the list.

Hope this helps.

Lee.

I had a similar problem with one of my clients. ?Can?t find the Run button?
What it ended up being is the resolution was 800x600 with large icons, which pushed the run command below the taskbar.
I changed the resolution to 1024x768 and there it was?
