run two Windows 98 OS on same PC

By Bhrdwh ·
Hi,
Is there a way to run Windows 98 OS on same PC twice. (We'll use on OS at a time of course!)

Problem is we've got Office 2000 & Office XP. Now on Windows 98 only one of these can be installed. Word Templates made in Word 2000 often give problems in Word XP... Like Bold Black Round Bullets turn into Empty Square Bullets OR we cant insert page numbers etc.

The Plan is to have a PC running two Windows 98 OS. One will have Office 2000 (C:\Windows & C:\Program Files) while the other will have Office XP (C:\Win98 & C:\Program Files9. So that win 98 OS are both in different folder as is Program Files. Is it possible ?

You will need to have 2 drives set up on the PC.
Either partition the existing drive, or add a second drive.

I would suggest 3 partitions.
1 for each installation of the OS,
And 1 for the data files.

Then, you need to set up the machine fordual boot.
The simplest way is to use a boot manager.
There are several articles on setting up a dual boot machine in the TechRepublic archives.
Also, check out the dual boot section at www.aumha.org
for more imformation.

Another option is to install VMWare. It lets you set up a "virtual computer" on your system. You would have a single install of Win98, install VMWare, then start it up and configure a new Win98 install in the VMWare shell.
Then, you are running theoringinal Win98 install, and in the VMWare window, the second completely different Win98 install could be running. You can even do different OS' also. Run Win98 normally, and run Mandrake in the VMWare shell.
It is a useful software.
