Is there anyway to run an application as a NT service.

Use NT Resource Kit. It has a utility called SRVINST that will install an application to run as a service.

An addition to the DC1 answer is that you must create a user with administrator's and "logon as a service" rights and use it in the properties of the service.

And actually srvany (also reskit) is intended to be used to install basically anything as a service. There is a doc file with a complete description included
