Running apps from Front Page

By dmair ·
I am trying to run an access database over the web through MS FrontPage. I am able to get the app to run by selecting "Run application from current location" as opposed to saving the app to disk. Is there a way to to force the browser or FrontPageto default to "run from current location" and thereby prohibit downloads?

When the dialog box appears prompting to run or download, select the 'run' option, clear the "Always ask before opening this type of file" checkbox, and click on OK. From that point on, the default behaviour will be to run the program. NOTE: this will be the default behaviour for ALL files with the same extension (i.e. ".mdb" for an Access database, ".exe" for executable, etc.)

Should you make this change, and then decide you need to undo it, the MSDN article
"Cannot Specify Download Directory for File" can help restore the original settings. It is located at:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q177/9/76.ASP

Hope this helps...

I suspected as much as far as the prefernce box goes, however, as I would be the provider of the app this won't help because I would have to trust that the users would set this preference. As you have stated, once that preference is set it is unilateral and has to be undone which is not something I would want the users to have to do to their browser(s). I am beginning to think that it is not possible to circumvent this prompt from the server side. I believe at this point what I need is verification that circumvention is not possible.
