We are running a DOS application (ACCPAC). We have run this on W3.X, W95 and W98 with no problem. I just got in a new workstation with W2000 Professional. The DOS app seemed to work fine at first. Then the user started experiencing problems withjust one function in the Accounts Payable module of the app(posting a manual check batch). When she tries to do this step it says that the data is damaged. It will then not let anyone into the Accounts Payable module. I tried restoring the data from a backup. That works great but when she tries the same procedure the same error occurs. Sometimes after the data becomes damaged she also gets the “Too Many Files Open” error message. Normally we could correct this on W98 machines by editing config.sys and adding a line “Files=200”. I tried this in her config.sys but it did not help.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
By the way, I purchased the machine from Dell. I told them I was still running a DOS app at the time I was ordering and this was still what they recommended. And since the software was preloaded, Microsoft does not want to offer support. How do you get around that?
Thanks in advance for the support…
