Running process options and HKLM quirk

By Ulodesk ·
I run W-XP Pro, single home computer. I don't know if these two aspects are related:
My task manager seems to have added unnecessary processes, with the commit charge now up around 350 MB, while the HKLM Run tab of my Startup Control Panel utility has a quirk:
For example, iTunesHelper, which also shows in my processes list, is checked on the HKLM Run tab. If I uncheck it, it stays checked and an unchecked, identical copy -- both name and path -- appears above it. If I try to uncheck the checked copy, I am told ?There is already an enabled/disabled item of the same name. Please rename either the enabled or disabled item.?
(Renaming simply adds the new one, making three!) I can delete the unchecked copy but not the checked one.
I have no applications showing in my Programs/Startup folder.
One person consulted thought such problems might have to do with my recently having changed my logon from admin to user (for Internet security reasons), after making the unused User account then new admin account.
Any advice on any aspect of these will be appreciated.
