Running single boot drive with raid 5 data drive (failed raid 5)

by the_real_venym . Updated 17 years, 3 months ago

I’m working to recover data from a failed raid 5 and think my problem is coming down to running a single bootable drive together with the raid 5 volume.

Setup:
Mobo – Asus Maximus Extreme
3x WD Velociraptors using Intel Matrix for 2 raid volumes: Bootable Raid 0, Raid 5.
A new bootable single drive.

One drive failed which kills my bootable raid 0, but the data on my raid 5 should still be readable. So I grab a fresh drive and install vista, hoping to be able to see my raid 5 volume.

The problem is I have to change my bios “Configure SATA as” from RAID to IDE in order for it to see the new single drive. Of course this prevents Intel Matrix Storage Manager from setting up the RAID 5.

Is there no way to run a single bootable drive along side an Intel Matrix Storage Manager raid?

Thanks,
John
