New and exciting?

by russ.bryan In reply to Russ' Blog

A new year starts at our school district. New bosses (well, a new boss for me), new projects, new servers.

Overall, I'm looking at the next coming year with a sense of
excitment. I've had some rough times this last year, and I'm
hoping with these changes, things will start to work more productively.

I'm in the process of installing Harcourt Math onto new instructional
servers (Dual XEON procs, very nice!) and getting the prepped for the
field. I've finished up a VLAN project at one of our schools, and
it was surprisingly succesful. We have a few kinks to still work
out, but over all things are looking good.

Hopefully I'll have some more tech-related posts and things another person might be more interested in.. =P
PC-BSD

by russ.bryan In reply to Russ' Blog

I've been tinkering with PC-BSD (http://www.pcbsd.org) recently, which
I am quite impressed with. Since I'm still learning the ins and
outs of the BSD system, I must admit that I really like the installer
application that comes with it. I've had FreeBSD running on my
laptop for about a year now, and figured I'd **** that install out of
the water and start with a fresh install.

I have been enjoying it ever since. PC-BSD combines the best of
FreeBSD (in essence, PC-BSD *is* FreeBSD but geared for desktops) and
ease of use that I think will help turn people on to the BSD world.
