Safe to delete Apps.ppkg?

I must reduce HD disk space. How safe is deleting Apps.ppkg? Its size is 3.6 GB. I use Windows 10. I must double check because another program file usmt.ppkg MUST NOT be deleted.

I read [this abstruse explanation of Apps.ppkg, but I don’t understand it.

It doesn’t clearly advise if deleting is safe. In actuality, the last sentence suggests that deletion ISN’T safe — because if deleting is safe, why would you need make “a backup of the file on external storage”???

The only time I see this question is for those rather awful 32GB (storage) laptops.

The fix is to not fuss around deleting but to wipe the machine clean and perform a clean install. As this is the only way to maximize what you have on such laptops, no one I know fusses with a file like you asked.

Now there is a really trimmed down W10 but it’s not for most of us.

If you’re not 100% sure it can be deleted without resulting in problems (but only 99%), you either make a backup copy or rename it, so you can go back to what works.

But https://superuser.com/questions/1517095/deleted-usmt-ppkg-nothing-works-anymore-windows-10 makes me think Proffitt is right with his answer.
