Salary Nogotation after very successful

By talbakr ·
I have recently graduated from college and applied to the same company which i had a very successful internship with.

While an intern I was acting as a LAN administrator in addition to working on a major Video Conferencing Project (>5 million Dollors)to take the place of the main engineers after they had trouble with one leaving the comaony and the other away for training.

Based on the project mangers' comments I did a great job and was instrumental in the success of the project, so much so that I was asked to extended my internship to 2 more months.

After that I was promised by my manager a job with the company as soon as I graduate and was even told that they would consider my internship as one year experience.

Now after I applied to the company I was informed verbally by my manger that I would be given a standard salary (without the year experience)so I requested to meet with him in a weeks time and he agreed. My problem is how do I negotiatte an increase in salary based on his previous promise and my work without being cocky, rude or angry , when I have a strong felling he won't give me a new offer ?

You have shown that you re worth something to the company, in other words: you have added value. This added value is the key: you should explain that you are worth x$ because you believe that in the past you have saved/earned them y$, which was better than they expected, and in the future you plan to do this or that (improve a system of which you noticed some flaws, participate in a project, whatever), and that will save/earn the company z$.

In short, to negotiate money, you need to explainwhy. Not so much "because I'm worth it", but more as in a very small business plan. Not too much detail, no precise figures (unless you have a crystal ball), but a small rough calculation that shows them you are worth what you're asking for.

A contract with a company is no wellfare, from either side. You're both there to make a profit on each other, to have a win-win situation. Just show them what they can win.

Jim I thank you on your excellent advice, I finished the interview and I think i got my message through. The manager informed me that he would seriously look into it and has asked me to wait until he had a chance to talk to his manager about the issue. Wish me the best of luck .
