samba fail to start

By Shanghai Sam ·
I issued 'samba start' to start the server. The system respond with 'OK' message indicate the server started. But when I issued 'samba status', the respond I get is 'smbd stopped' and 'nmbd stopped'.

Could you guys tell me what is going on?

samba fail to start

by wzab1 In reply to samba fail to start

I'm guessing this is a Linux issue. To get Samba 2.0.x to start use the command '/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start'. You should see prompts for both the smbd and nmbd daemons as they start up in sequence. To stop or restart Samba use '/etc/rc.d/init.d/smbstop|restart'.

To see if they're running use the ps command 'ps ax | grep mbd'

Hope this helps...
