Dear all Linux and Unix experts, I didnt know that Linux was so hard until I was stucked in it like this. I have no previous idea about Linux exept working with Slackware 7.1 a year ago.
I have a network with Novell 4.11 as a server and a variety of Windows workstation platforms.
I decided to work with Linux so I installed Mandrake 9.2 on a machine, everything works fine, I download a Novell client and connected succesfully with my Novell server, and even ran a Dos program on the server thru a Dos emulator. But when it came to Samba, (It was easy when I installed it on Slackware before), but here in Mandrake, I thought it was easier.
You know! Eveything is ok, swat, testparm and even the command “smbclient -U% -L localhost”
This means that the services samba is running.
The problem is,
1, for the Linus box to be shown in windows network neibourhood, I have to issue the last command “smbclient -U% ……”
2, when I try to acces it though a windows box, this message appears: \\NameOfLinuxBox is not accessible.
The computer or share name could not be found. Make sure you typed it correctly, and try again.
3, After about 10 minutes, when I refresh network neigbourhood in windows, I dont find it in there.
Have any idea?
Note that whenever I checked the samba status in Swat, I see that it’s running.
