Hello, I have a similar problem to many out here. Long story short I am trying to connect my cable modem directly to my PC with a 5e cable which has been verified good. When i go directly from my cable modem to my Vista laptop with the cable it works fine, when going to my XP desktop with same cable, it either says “network cable unplugged” or after I mess with it and get it to try and get an IP (takes forever) it says limited connectivity and I have no net connection. Im pretty sure the IP its generating is a bad one but why can I not use ipconfig release and renew or even netsh winsock res to get that to reset. I have tried all of those.
