The SAP Made Easy series offers an excellent source of vital information for Basis support also but you need an Service (OSS) ID to access that link unless if you know someone with SID. Almost every Relational Database administrator I know want to get into becoming a Basis Administrator but there is very little in common between a DBA and a Basis Administrator who handles the following SAP admininstrative duties: Application Support, Server, Authorization, Security, Network, and lately, integration support (portal, interconnect, etc.). Each duty requires a certain level of SAP savvy and truthfully, unless you have some well connected relative working already in SAP, your chance of success is slim.
