SATA Disk question

by mikemc3 . Updated 16 years, 11 months ago

I have an older mainboard (Intel Desktop Board D845PEBT2) with a SATA 150 connection on it. I have always used IDE hard drives and not SATA drives. My currently installed IDE drive is dying (occasionally making a spinning clicking noise and recently I had to use a scandisk tool to recover the C-Drive of my computer), so the current disk is not “long for this world” :D.

Since I know nothing about SATA drives, can I purchase any SATA drive or do I need a specific kind because of the SATA 150 name? Also once I plug it in will my system recognize it and mount it as a secondary drive so I can do a file transfer from the old drive (I have an old Western Digital floppy based file/by/file transfer utility for replacing the system drive)?

I want to know before I spend my money on this.

Thank you.
