But when you install Windows XP you have to press the F6 key to install the drivers for the SATA driver. This is usually on either a floppy that came with the M'Board or you can use the CD as well but it is a bit more messy that way.
Poster rated this answer. Ok thanks, but what about if XP is installed already and I want to add a SATA HDD now?? I installed the Silicon Image drivers etc inside windows itself but windows can't see the drive??
Try this and then tell me if Windows can not see the drive.
Go into Control Panel in Classic View then Administrative Tools then Computer Management then Disk Management and see if the drive is there. If it is you can format it up by right clicking on the drive and choosing the format option.
From the way the question was worded I thought you wanted to know if you could just use 1 SATA drive and not set up two without the RAID option.
To get the Format option you have to hold the mouse pointer over the area where the Drive details would be if the drive was formatted up. not over the Disk 1 Designation.
