Saving double documents

By Old Guy ·
I have a user who is scanning in documents through PaperPort and saving as a PDF file to a shared folder on the network. When she saves it saves two copies (the original and a copy) plus a temp document. I updated Windows, updated and ran Ad-Aware Pro, updated and ran McAfee Enterprise. I uninstalled and reinstalled PaperPort. No change. She still gets the double saves. The user next to her does not get the double documents when going through the same operation. Any suggestions.

BTW, I had a hard time figuring out how to close the only other question I've had in Q&A. As soon as I can get this problem fixed (if possible) then I will try to close out the question. Thanks in advance.

The problem comes up when saving the file to a shared folder. I did check all settings on the printer and the Paperport printing and couldn't find a quantity set.

Thanks, though for you help. I'm still looking.

Does this only happen when saving scanned images?

As you have done the obvious things I would start by downloading Spy Bot S &amp and after updating the definitions start the computer in Safe Mode and run Ad aware Scans and an AV Scan as well you'll pickup more infections in Safe Mode than in Windows. It's also a good idea to have at least 2 Spy Ware products as none of them are perfect and what one misses the other will most likely pick up what the other misses.

Also when you removed Paper Point Did you make sure that you deleted any folders that remained? It's possible that not all of the program was removed and that a bad setting has been transfered from the old install to the new one.

This sounds very much like a software problem and there has to be a setting on that computer that is making 2 or more copies if it is confined to Paper Point then you at least know where to start looking but if it is doing this on different programs it's most likely is buried in Windows and a setting has been altered for some reason.

Lets know how you get on

I'm not sure I can offer a surefire cure. I've never used PaperPort but you have a typical Windows-type of problem so that won't matter much. I'll toss a few questions at you that might help...

Does the problem occur only if she scans to a shared folder?

What happens if she saves to some file type other than PDF?

I am assuming that she could log on to someone else's computer. If so, have her do that and scan something from that computer. Does the problem go away?

Do you have all the updates for PaperPort?

Here's a novel idea. Contact the company who developed PaperPort.

So did the new profile fix the problem? She might have wrong privileges for the shared folder.

Hal & M_a_r_k,

I just got back to this machine. It is saving double documents to the shared folder on the server. However, it only saves one copy to the My Document folder on local. Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help. I think we're getting closer.

Addendum to my additional comments:

I just found out that it is this specific user's profile that is saving double documents to the server. I am going to burn her profile and create a new profile for her. However, for the sake of learning if anyone has a possible explanation for this I would love to hear it. Thanks.
