Saving WEB PAGES

By mctazman2 ·
For the longest time I have been saving some WEB page information to my hard drive. Now when I try to do a SAVE or SAVE AS I receive a message that the document cannot be save to the particluar location. But I cannot chose any location and save. Does anyone know what might have changed on my HP 500MHZ machine. I am using WIN98 and have almost 12 GIG of hard drive space left. I can save word docs with no problem,

I have been getting this more and more with IE.

Interestingly, I have yet to have a page NOT save when I use the Mozilla browser. www.mozilla.org

Some pages do not load properly in Mozilla, but by and large it works a lot better than IE

But have you found a solution to the IE problem?

See if any of this helps:

SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to save a Web page as a Web archive (.mht) file, "Web Archive (*.mht)" may be missing from the Save As Type box.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if Microsoft Outlook Express 5 is not installed on your computer. The ability to save a Web page as a Web archive file is provided by the Inetcomm.dll file, which is installed by Outlook Express 5.

You didn't mention what browser you are using. Also tell what kind of site you are saving from.
2 suggestions:

1.If your using IE6 with Win98 that could be your problem. If so revert back to IE 5.5.

2.empty your internet temp files and reload the web page

Temp files are deleted on a daily basis as are temporary internet files. I am using and have been using IE6 without a problem. Thanks for your response.

My 'fix' for IE is NOT a complete solution.

What I do, is to append the file name with a letter or number.
Or, change the file name completely.

This works only 1/2 the time.

You might want to look around through the tips posted at:

I tried everything i could think of when my ie6 started this same behavior including clear the registry of dead entries. clearing the registry of dead entries allowed 2 more pages to save then i was back to same problem. I used ieradicator to eliminate ie6 put back ie5.01 same trouble came back with it, used ieradicator again and installed opera and have had no problems since and opera is not only 50 times more secure but also freed some 30MB of ram that ie6 and ie5 were hogging!!
