sbpcint4 - error at startup

By redrojam ·
I'm working with a couple of windows NT 4.0 SP6 machines, and I keep getting the following error
A driver failed to load at system startup please refer to the event veiwer. when I do the even viewer tells me of a problem with sbpcint4.

Is there a way to stop this message from appearing at system startup? The machines don't have sound cards anymore, so I assume that this is the reason the driver doesn't load.

I do know that the driver is from sound blaster PCI 16.

Thanks for your help

It sounds like the sound cards were NOT properly removed from device manager before they were physically removed.

NT is one of the worst versions of Windows when it comes to dealing with improperly executed hardware changes.

Do you have one of the sound cards that you can put back in the machines?

If so, install the card.
Then, open device manager and remove the card from there.
Shut down.
Physically remove the card.
If you still get an error, check the legacy files for driver calls.
(Autoexec.bat, Config.sys, Sys.ini, Win.ini)

You may need to manually go through the registry and delete references to the sound card.
