SBS 2003 and exchange

By star_tri ·
Hello,

Trying to help a friend who runs a small business. She has a SBS2003 server running SQL and wants to add another SBS2003 server running Exchange. Is it possible at all?

Thanks

Why?

Any particular reason why?
Exchange will be the Standard version so you will not be able to use the Front end/Back end setup. So, unless you have gone beyond the 16/75GB (depending on Service Pack) limit for Info Store.
There is no other reason why not though.

Not sure why

by star_tri In reply to Why?

P.J. thanks for the answer.
I am not very technical and not sure what you mean by "Exchange will be the Standard version so you will not be able to use the Front end/Back end setup". Their network is a mess anyway. They have a sbs 2003 server running sql and an accounting soft. About 15 workstations connect to a share on the server but they are not part of the domain. because of on going issues with email she wants to deploy a secong sbs2003 server running exchange.
Is it possible to have 2 sbs2003 server on the same domain?
Will all the workstations have to join the domain in order for users to get their email?

Thanks

I think so. No you do not need to join the domain to get email, but you do need to join the domain to login to a domain, use Group Policies and ensure central management.
