SBS Exchange Issue

By D Squared ·
I have a client who is running Microsofts Small Business Server 4.5 and is running into an issue with Exchange.

Anytime the server has been running for any lenght of time and you need to add a user or you go to setup a users outlook client, when you do a check name or adding a new mailbox the server can't save it or can't verify.

I try to shut down the exchange services and the directory store seems to hang while trying to shut down(left it for 20 mins once). The only way to get things running again is to shut down and restart the server.

Please when replying this is Exchange on SBS not straight NT and Exchange.

Thanks

SBS Exchange Issue

Unfortunately I don't have a solution for you - but I can sympathize. I have a client who has the exact same problem on their SBS 4.5 server. I have spent several hours on the telephone with Microsoft SBS tech support people and none of them couldcome up with either a reason why it's happening or how to fix it. I finally got so frustrated that I just went and rebooted the server and that (as you know) fixed the problem. Hate to say it, but. . .maybe the only answer is to upgrade to SBS 2000. Hope this helps!

What service packs are you running? That would be my first thing I would do before anything else.
Be sure to backup everything before you do this because adding all the patches and service packs to Exchange can be one unbootable nightmare.
