SBWatchDog.exe

By Susu ·
While going through my list of apps that get loaded at startup, I found the following entry in the "Run" key of my registry: "C:\WINNT\System32\SBUtils\SBWatchDog.EXE /l".
Does anyone know what this is? Is it safe to remove? I'm running an Acer TravelMate 525TXV with Windows 2000 Pro.

Looks strange to me. Do you have a soundblaster sound card? It could be the software that came with it loads one of those utils that detect when a cd goes into the drive. I usually do not install any of that stuff as it just wastes resources. If this is the case, I would go into the properties of the program itself...should be an icon in your task bar, and then disable it from there. If you jsut delete the entry you may have error messages popping up on you as it tries to look for the file.
Good luck!

Mike

I thought that too at first, but this app does not stay resident (no icon on task bar, no listing in task manager). It seems that it gets run at startup but terminates sometime before the GUI initializes.

To be honest, I am not entirely sure if this file is either a)spyware installed on many different types of laptops (I saw references to Sony, Fijitsu and HP) or b) anit-virus software that works against scripting files and only runs when a script isrun.

I would delete it from Run, personally.
