Scan for Windows SP1 on a network

By H-tech ·

I'm working in a department of about 400 users and wanted to make sure everyone was running Windows Service Pack 2. Is there a possible way (a tool maybe?) to scan a network to search for computers that are still running Windows XP SP1? Thanks.

Are these computers in a Domain? If so, you can use AD Users and Computers to see OS version and SP of the computer accounts.

If you have the priviledges, you can use the Computer Management tool to connect to other PCs and look at the properties of the computer to see OS ver (at top level).

Yes, I'm in a Domain with Active Directory access. While the suggestion to search for a service pack via Computer Management is very helpful, doing it for 400 individual computers may take a little time.

The suggestion for scripting sounds like a time effective technique. Now I need to familarize myself with scripting. Thanks for the suggestions. I welcome more ideas.
