Scan NTFS partitions

By compserv ·
Hey I have looked for programs that can do this without booting to windows. I have found a disk called Active NTFS that allows you to boot to a dos envroment and look at and copy folders and files.

But no I need one better. I want to find a disk that you can run scandisk from a DOS enviroment. Can anyone point me in the way in which I need to go to find this.

ERD Commander is one of my favorites. It is from
www.winternals.com
It gives you a windows-like environment, but is all from CD, so you can run a DOS window and do what you want.

You can also boot the computer to "Safemode with command prompt". This is a 32 bit environment without any background apps running. This will allow you to run dergag by changing to C:\Windows\System32 (by default) and running defrag.exe. The syntax will be:
defrag <volume> [-a] [-f] [-v] [-?]
volume drive letter or mount point
-a analyze only
-f force defragmentaion even if free space is low
-v verbose output
-? the help menu

I hope this helps you.

OK, now that I reread your question and got you through an asked for defrag. The same principle applies for running scandisk.
Let me see, ... where was that remedial reading course?
