Scandisk Hangup

By piko0 ·
I've just installed an AMD 1.6 processor on a compatible board with 256 mb ram. I installed win98 as my operating system. Now when I reboot the system it just hangs at scandisk and freezes.
I've tried two different hard drives and two AMD processors and it doesn't make any difference. Could anyone give me some insight on what could be causing this problem? Any help will be appreciated.

Double check the CPU and memory clock settings.

If you are using SDRAM, make sure that the FSB is either 100 or 133 (for 200 MHz and 266MHz CPU FSB respectively) and the multiplier gets you to the correct clock speed for the CPU.

Remember that XP series Athlon CPUs are "performance" rated. The actual clock speed is lower than the rated speed.

The only other thought that I have si that the DOS mode version of scandisk cannot deal with the IDE controller on your motherboard.

I recall that one of the variables in MSDOS.sys can be set to skip scandisk.

You may also check for BIOS update in your system too. Your Input/output dont's communicate with your AMD processor. Check your BIOS Manufacture and down load your update.
