Scandisk incorrect freespace report

By OzJohn ·
Scandisk indicates incorrect 'freespace' and offers to fix it. All is well for a few days then same error occurs usually following a system freeze!! Is this a hard drive problem or software. I'm Running W98se, 256mg Ram, Samsung 10.2G HD.

Try this,
delete all files in the windows\temp directory, delete all temporary internet files.
do a thourough scandisk automatically fixing any errors found, and then a defrag.

Should fix the problem.

Thx Gazza, already done all that - no difference - still intermittently freezes every 24 hrs. Run scandisk and it then reports incorrect freespace !! (and offers to fix it) :)) I'm beginning to suspect the FAT maybe playing up ??

I posted a question similar to this the other day. Except mine didn't lock up, the performance would just drop after a while. I even tried formating a different drive and reinstalling everything, but it didn't seem to be fixed. I am also using Win98 se. My drive size seemed to shrink after using the machine for a while. I still have not resolved this problem and it only started happening a couple weeks ago.
