Scandisk reports possible bad sectors

By excel_gid ·
It is happened many times a month when a pc is booted it stops in the begining cautioning about possible bad sectors in the hard drive and then runs surface scan which reports no bad sector and everything goes fine. But after 2 or 3 days it behaves in the same manner.

Do you let scandisk run all through?

Have you tryed running scandisk in windows?

There may be an problem developing on you hard drive. If its under warranty its worth going to the shop you gor it from.

Is this in the DOS mode or the Windows mode? Actually both have the ability to pick the option to fix these bad sectors. Have you tried picking the option to have them fixed? Have you done a thorough scandisk? If you can answer yes to one or a couple of these questions, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this usually is a sign of (insert sinister music here)impending hard drive failure....but not always, so don't lose heart yet! Maybe a good windows or hard drive cleaner might help.Good luck!

Try running a defrag on the drive (accessories-->system tools). You drive might be failing. If you have important info on that drive, take precautions (backup data and replace drive.... its not worth it)

If the drive is a Western Digital there was a lot of them that had just this type of problem but not all of them were bad. They made a utility on their web site that would verify the drive for you. Just a thought!
