Scandisk won’t run on Bootup (W95)

by blackcurrant . Updated 24 years, 9 months ago

Hello Folks

Every time I reboot my computer I get a message during startup saying that one or more of my hard drives may have developed bad sectors and that I should press any key to run Scandisk to attempt to correct the problem. So, I press enter. Then a second message is displayed telling me that there was an error starting Scandisk and that I should start it manually, and that I should press any key to continue loading Windows.

Now, I have used DiskDoctor from Norton Utilities 2000 toscan all my hard drives using the ‘thorough’ option for the surface test. No problems were detected. However, my computer is still displaying the message, followed by the unable to start Scandisk message.

What is going on? How can I get round this? It is not a major hassle pressing enter twice during startup but it disturbs my karma. Can I edit scandisk’s ini file? Is there a modification I can make to one of the bootup files such as MSDOS.sys or IO.sys?

This ‘affliction’ is also present on one other computer on my network. Any help from you guys would be appreciated.

Thanking you in advance…

Mark
