scanner bulb

By dragyn_myrlin ·
Can anyone tell me where to get a scanner bulb for an HP PSC 950? Please don't tell me HP, as I spent hours on the phone today with every customer service person available. No one can tell me the part number. The bulb itself says W1 on it but nothing else. Or can someone suggest some specific websites - not the GE or Sylvania ones- where I could find the info?

First, are you sure that the scanner bulb is dead and not the power supply that runs the lamp?

Since most scanners (and multi-function devices) run on DC voltages, a special voltage multiplier is used to create the high voltage required for the lamp.

Second, if you can't get the lamp from HP you may be out of luck.

Scanner lamps are NOT normal "off the shelf" lamps. They are color balanced for the specific image sensor and optics.
Even if you find a physically similar lamp, it may not work properly as it will have a different color balance.

Have you tried a local HP service center?
Or, an office equipment service center?

Another option would be a computer recycler. If they have a similar model printer you might be able to buy it cheap for parts.
