Scanner problem`…

I have recently installed a scanner to my P C. But whenever I try to use it… it comes up with an error message…

“Parallel port use by another application. Twain driver cannot be found… pls reinstall driver.”

I have uninstall & reinstallapplication but to no avail. I have search all avenues & to no luck. Please advise as to what is the next step… or should i get myself an updated scanner… My canoscan is about 2 years old… pls advise…
