Scanner problem`...

By renelle_ds ·
I have recently installed a scanner to my P C. But whenever I try to use it... it comes up with an error message...

"Parallel port use by another application. Twain driver cannot be found... pls reinstall driver."

I have uninstall & reinstallapplication but to no avail. I have search all avenues & to no luck. Please advise as to what is the next step... or should i get myself an updated scanner... My canoscan is about 2 years old... pls advise...

many thanks

Scanner problem`...

Assumptions,
You have a parellel port scaner, the scanner is connected between your computer and your parellel port printer.

1. Right click on the my computer icon,
click on properties,
click on the device manager tab,
scroll down to the "ports" line,
click on the "+" to expand the branch,
verify that the parallel port calls out EPP or ECP.
If not, you will need to go into CMOS setup at boot, and change your parallel port settings.

2. Make sure that the cables are conected correctly on the back of the scanner.
Also, are you using the cable that came with the scanner between the PC and scanner?
This cable must be a true 25 line "bi-directional" cable.

3. You usually have to have the printer turned on to use the scanner when the devices are chained together.

4. Have you checked Canons web site for an updated driver?
You said that you have installed the application. This is not enough, you also need a driver for the scanner. This should be on the original Canon CD that came with the scanner.
